MBA institutes have always preferred students with work experience. This is because student with work experience have the necessary skills to be able to perform projects efficiently.
Having a good two to three years work experience gives you an edge over others. This is especially helpful when you are fighting with a thousand plus students for a handful of seats.
Team work is essential to do any kind of project in MBA and people who have work experience do have the expertise to work in a team or a group. Also, when you work in an organization, your communication skills and co-ordination techniques improve to a great extent.
Some of the B-schools intake students only if they have work experience. Especially business schools in UK are stringent with their policies and they do not provide admission to any candidate with less than three years of work experience (full time in nature).
On the other hand, the schools in US do not have a strict policy. But there is immense competition which rules out a chance of getting admission for aspirants without work experience.
However, there are students who do not want to wait for years to gather work experience and hence they rush to any B-school they are getting admission in. This is not a good option and if you are an MBA aspirant please reconsider your decision whether to take admission into a B-school without work ex or gather some work experience and then get into a good B-school.
While a student is pursuing an MBA in US or UK, there will be many other students from all over the world. There is a good amount of cultural diversity that is generated. Hence if an Asian student gathers some work experience, he or she will stand a fair chance of getting through a good B-school.
Work experience is one weapon that will help you to combat with the rather competitive MBA admission scenario!
